About me - your host, mentor and facilitator

My name is Caroline Szellemes McCullough (also known as Cas). I am a multi-award-winning copywriter, content strategist, founder of tech startups Writally and Jotli and a digital marketer with more than 25 years experience in marketing and communications. I'm the Amazon bestselling author of Your Brilliant Un-Career: Women, Entrepreneurship and Making the Leap, Magnetic Marketing and my upcoming book Possible.

My work has been internationally-recognised in the Brisbane Lord Mayor's Entrepreneurship Grant 2019, the Content Marketing Awards, the Marketing Profs Brightbulb Awards and Social Media Examiner’s Top Blog competition in which I placed in the top 24 social media blogs in the world.


I've been published in Social Media Examiner, Content Marketing Institute, and Mark Schaefer’s blog “Grow”. What happens at the retreat

I am committed to ensuring you leave the retreat having accomplished the writing goals you set for yourself at the start. My promise is that you will gain confidence, break through creative blocks, have dedicated quiet writing time as well as time to socialise and connect, and soak up the Italian culture, landmarks and food in the region.

The Immerse Writers' Retreat is inspired by the unconference model, human-centered design principles and my many years experience facilitating women's mental health and maternity care support groups, professional business workshops, artist workshops and women's retreats. 

The retreat is co-created with you as a collaborative, intimate experience with a maximum of 6 participants. Upon booking into the retreat, I will contact you to discuss your retreat goals and how you'd like to contribute to the group. At the very beginning of the retreat, you will have an opportunity to share what matters most to you during the 10-day experience and together we’ll define collective goals, establish ground rules and create a safe space for both individual and group goals to be met throughout our time in Tuscany.

More specific details will be available closer to the retreat, but here's what your retreat investment covers:

  • All meals and drinks at the venue (participants purchase their own meals off-site if on their own individual outings). Meal preparation at the venue is part of the collaborative experience. 
  • Transport for planned outings throughout the retreat. I am hiring a car for transport to and from the venue from Florence, Italy and this will be available for use throughout the retreat for grocery runs, group outings, and more.
  • Beautifully-appointed share accommodation (max 2 per room)
  • Wifi
  • Up to 5 hours of individual coaching from Caroline throughout the 11 days
  • Daily roundtable sessions with other participants

Retreat fees and conditions

Deposits--How it will work:

Secure your place with a $200 deposit and pay in full by June 30 to book in at the best price.

The exact venue is TBC but the location will be about an hour or so out of Florence, Italy and accommodation will be approx 4 star villa-style accommodation, with excellent reviews. We need to be comfortable and at home to get into the writing zone.


Your deposit is non-refundable, but bookings can be transferred to someone else on our waiting list if your plans change.

Retreat Fees:

Pay in full by June 30:

  • $2,250

Pay in full from 1 July, 2019 to September 1, 2019:

  • $3000

Prices in AUD. I cannot charge GST as I am not currently registered for GST through the McCullough Family Trust.

Terms and Conditions:

  • Participants are responsible for their own visas, transport to and from Florence and the retreat venue if arriving in Florence after 10am on October 15, and their own travel insurance. We will provide comprehensive information on travel options to guide you for on-the-ground transportation. 
  • You must have at least 6 months left on your current passport, if you already have one. If you don't have a valid passport, you must organise this well before the retreat.
  • All retreat fees must be paid in full by September 1, 2019.
  • No cancellations or refunds after September 12, 2019.  However, you can transfer your booking to someone else up until October 1.
  • Participants can choose to spend additional time sightseeing during the retreat on their own. However, retreat activities will not be refundable if you don’t participate in them and the retreat vehicle can only be driven by those on the hire agreement. You may wish to hire your own vehicle if you would like to spend more time on individual outings.
  • We reserve the right to change the itinerary without notice. Every effort will be made to replace any canceled activities with activities of equivalent value in the unlikely event we are unable to go ahead with a planned activity. The itinerary will be fully confirmed in September.
  • You must communicate specific dietary needs and allergies, as well as any medical conditions that may affect your participation in the retreat to us upon booking into the retreat. Forms will be sent to you after your deposit is paid.
  • This is a clean retreat. Use of illegal substances will result in you being asked to leave the retreat without a refund.
  • This retreat has a safety policy. Participants will be encouraged to check in with each other to ensure everyone feels safe.
  • Participants are responsible for their conduct at all times. Any behaviour that is deemed inappropriate (eg. harassment, racism etc)) will result in a participant being asked to leave the retreat with no refund. 
  • We reserve the right to amend or add to these terms and conditions at any time and any changes will be communicated to you at the time they are made.
  • By paying a deposit, you agree to abide by these terms and conditions.
