About me - your host, mentor and facilitator

My name is Caroline Szellemes McCullough (also known as Cas). I am a multi-award-winning copywriter, content strategist, founder of tech startups Writally and Jotli and a digital marketer with more than 25 years experience in marketing and communications. I'm the Amazon bestselling author of Your Brilliant Un-Career: Women, Entrepreneurship and Making the Leap, Magnetic Marketing and my upcoming book Possible.

My work has been internationally-recognised in the Brisbane Lord Mayor's Entrepreneurship Grant 2019, the Content Marketing Awards, the Marketing Profs Brightbulb Awards and Social Media Examiner’s Top Blog competition in which I placed in the top 24 social media blogs in the world.

I've been published in Social Media Examiner, Content Marketing Institute, and Mark Schaefer’s blog “Grow”. I'm a Bluechilli and Walkleys Foundation alumnus, the Suncorp Small Business Challenges competition winner, an Anthill Smart 100 award winner, and a finalist in the Women in Technology awards two years running. I've also written for Mamamia, Startup Smart, Smart Company and been featured in Problogger, Product Hunt, the Sydney Morning Herald, The Courier Mail, Startup Daily, Brisbane Times and The Age.

An unconventional, big-picture thinker, I am highly-skilled at guiding you through the writing journey and am committed to writing content that gets bottom-line results having done so for organisations like Woodfordia Inc (Woodford Folk Festival), Food Connect Shed Ltd, and Flying Arts Alliance.

When it comes to writing and empowering others to write, I draw upon my world's first training and mentoring methodologies that will enable you to break through any creative barrier so you can fully express yourself as a writer and thought leader.

A few words from happy clients

Caroline has developed a great system for blog writing and content marketing. She assisted with our equity crowdfunding campaign (which is only half way through as I write) and she has helped us to share our different value propositions to potential investors across a number of social media channels, newsletters and our website. Caroline is reliable, professional and a pleasure to work with.

Caroline's love of blog content and understanding of what is involved in creating compelling blogs that people will actually want to read is clear.

I tend to procrastinate writing new posts. I love the blog hackathons because they enable me to get a post done in one sitting with only an hour set aside.

The workshop presented by Caroline McCullough is a must attend for any scientist attempting to communicate their science to a wider community. This workshop presents simple, yet effective, tools, which I preach in every written piece I now produce. It's also greatly improved my writing skills and has reignited the passion I once had for creative writing.

What happens at the retreat

I am committed to ensuring you leave the retreat having accomplished the writing goals you set for yourself at the start. My promise is that you will gain confidence, break through creative blocks, have dedicated quiet writing time as well as time to socialise and connect, and soak up the Italian culture, landmarks and food in the region.

The Immerse Writers' Retreat is inspired by the unconference model, human-centered design principles and my many years experience facilitating women's mental health and maternity care support groups, professional business workshops, artist workshops and women's retreats.

The retreat is co-created with you as a collaborative, intimate experience with a maximum of 6 participants. Upon booking into the retreat, I will contact you to discuss your retreat goals and how you'd like to contribute to the group. At the very beginning of the retreat, you will have an opportunity to share what matters most to you during the 10-day experience and together we’ll define collective goals, establish ground rules and create a safe space for both individual and group goals to be met throughout our time in Tuscany.

More specific details will be available closer to the retreat, but here's what your retreat investment covers:

  • All meals and drinks at the venue (participants purchase their own meals off-site if on their own individual outings). Meal preparation at the venue is part of the collaborative experience.
  • Transport for planned outings throughout the retreat. I am hiring a car for transport to and from the venue from Florence, Italy and this will be available for use throughout the retreat for grocery runs, group outings, and more.
  • Beautifully-appointed share accommodation (max 2 per room)
  • Wifi
  • Up to 5 hours of individual coaching from Caroline throughout the 11 days
  • Daily roundtable sessions with other participants
