As many of you know, we’ve been in the midst of a natural disaster here in Queensland, Australia (and Northern New South Wales). We are well and only lost power for about 2 days but now our power is back, we’re getting back to business. I’m also starting up a campaign to help with the relief effort and I’d love for you to join in.
Some of the hardest hit areas thus far are Laidley, Bundaberg, Maryborough, Logan, and Grafton. Here are a couple of Instagram pics I took of our local playground (just reopened a month ago after being decimated in the last flood in 2011)
Here’s four ways you can help…
And I want to recognise you in return for your generosity!
Pull out a shoebox and fill it with useful items for flood victims and send it to an area charity via givit.org.au (include a note for the recipient and a note saying exactly what’s in the box). You will be able to see what items are needed and what is appropriate to send and what is not on the givit.org.au website. This is the official virtual warehouse for area charities (publicised on the Queensland Goverment website.).
Once your donation is boxed up and ready to send or deliver, snap a pic on your mobile or camera and put it up on social media. Be sure to use the #boxedrelief, #socialgood and #qldflood hashtags on Instagram, Google+, Twitter and Facebook. Be sure to tag Support a WAHP, Mumatopia or Content Marketing Cardiology when you post a pic and I’ll do a public shoutout/retweet to let everyone know. This helps spread the word about how people can donate and gives you some acknowledgement for your generosity.
Bake some homebaked goodies to distribute to SES volunteers and clean up crews in flooded areas (where you have safe access). I am taking donated baked goods for distribution tomorrow (Thursday 31st). If you’re a local to Ipswich or West Brisbane and want to drop off goodies, please message me on 0438 898 706.
Make a direct donation to the Red Cross on behalf of your small business and I will gladly promote the fact on my social media pages. Be sure to let me know what you’ve donated and send me your @tag on Twitter or your Facebook URL.
Tweet, Facebook and Plus One about your assistance to help us get the word out! This is social good in action!
